Public hearing on expanding FDAAA tropical disease list

A December 12, 2008, public hearing in Washington DC will consider the criteria for expanding the list of tropical diseases recognized under the Food and Drug Administration Amendments Act of 2007 (FDAAA) to include, as the FDAAA allows, other infectious diseases. The FDA seeks public comments on: (1) whether diseases should be added to the list at this time, (2) what procedures should be used to add diseases, and (3) how should the FDAAA language on disease criteria.
