Grant funds totaling $1.5 million are available in fiscal year 2009 to support the Clinical Trials Transformation Initiative for researchers to improve the design and execution of clinical trials. The systematic modernization of the clinical trial process is a goal shared by both the Clinical Trials Transformation Initiative, started by the FDA and Duke University's Department of Transitional Medicine, as well as the Critical Path Initiative, which was launched by the FDA in 2004 to help modernize the development, evaluation, manufacture and use of FDA-regulated products.
