Standards for foreign clinical studies supporting INDs

Standards for foreign clinical studies not conducted under an investigational new drug application (IND) as support for an IND or application for marketing approval for a drug or biological product have been updated by the FDA. The FDA will replace the requirement that foreign studies be conducted in accordance with the ethical principles stated in the Declaration of Helsinki with a requirement that the studies be conducted in accordance with good clinical practice, including review and approval by an independent ethics committee.
