GAO: FDA initiatives are promising, but not certain

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) investigated the FDA’s foreign drug inspection program in the fall of 2007, and again from March through April of this year, and found that recent FDA initiatives, some which have been implemented and others proposed, could strengthen the FDA's foreign drug inspection program, but these initiatives do not fully address the weaknesses that the GAO had previously testified to in November 2007.
